Artistic take on Penang heritage

IT was a feast for art lovers as the Art Technology Education Centre (ATEC) collaborated with New World Park in organising a heritage art exhibition entitled ‘My Penang Heritage’.

The exhibition, organised in conjunction with the third anniversary of George Town’s listing as a Unesco World Heritage Site, showcased ATEC students’ artworks which reflected Penang’s rich heritage and culture.

Local visitors were able to relate to the paintings as they portrayed many common sights and places of interest in Penang while for the foreign tourists, it was an interesting view of Penang via art.

In addition, the visitors also got the chance to view an exclusive artwork by the students entitled ‘Street View of Penang’ featuring prominent streets such as Camp- bell Street, Kimberly Street, King Street and Carnarvon Street.

At the same time, a Lomo wall was also set up to present visitors a chance to know more about Lomography.

Those keen on expressing themselves grabbed the chance to work their creative side by having a go at the technique.

According to ATEC principal Ong Choon Leong, the recent two-da event sought to raise awareness among the youths on the preservation of Penang’s heritage and culture.

“We hope that through this event, they will be able to learn more about the Penang heritage sites and learn how to conserve them.”

He added that this was also a very good opportunity for the public, especially the younger generation, to learn more about not just their own culture, but also that of other races as well.http://penang4u.net/searchdetail.php?id=4249
